Senior Health NOW! is a United Way of Broward County 2010-11 funded Community Impact Partner and managed by Broward Meals on Wheels (BMOW). BMOW provides essential services that improve health, reduce isolation, and promote independent living for seniors in our community.
Nutritional Education & Assessments
Addressing all seniors living in Broward County, Senior Health NOW! (SHN) administers nutritional assessments, nutrition screening, and education. Sessions of five-week classes consist of nutritional assessments and education plus a live food demonstration each week.
Medication Education & Assessments
Addressing the risk factors for medication misuse using an in-depth medication assessment tool and administered by certified professionals. A counselor will schedule an in-home or community visit with the senior to determine the level of prescription medication intake and compliance. The medication counselor will consult to determine follow up and need for a more in-depth evaluation.
Socialization
To facilitate compliance and sustainability of nutrition and medication self care with the senior population, SNH is partnered with Senior Volunteer Services (SVS) to provide home visits through the SVS Senior Companion Program. SVS Tele-Friend volunteers call clients to reinforce dietary/medication practices.
